Ringland Johnson Goes Green

Ringland-Johnson is committed to acting as a good steward of the environment.  Not only do we have recycling bins throughout our office and shop areas, we also recycle construction debris on most of our job sites (not just those that are LEED projects).  We continually try to increase our awareness and training and currently have approximately 11 LEED trained employees, including a LEED AP.  We also discuss environmental-friendly options with our clients when planning a project and perform a life cycle analysis on all design/build projects in order to ensure the most efficient system for each of our clients. RJC is also a member of the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

We are proud of the recently completed $16 million, 80,000 SF office building for Exelon Nuclear that has received LEED Silver Certification.   This 3-story building consists of a steel structure with a concrete foundation and precast support. The concept of LEED on this project was established after the project began, causing RJC to act quickly in the midst of design to change aspects of the building to meet LEED criteria. Additional planning for this and security for the Nuclear plant made this project challenging.

The Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens, a new greenhouse, has been completed and is a LEED Silver project. RJC is also in construction of the Rockford Christian High School, new Science, Technology and Humanities Center which will be LEED certified.

We have completed several projects with geothermal wells and solar energy including: Ogle County Courthouse Renovation (40 geothermal wells); Hiawatha Elementary School Addition (68 geothermal wells); and Nicholas Conservatory (photovoltaic panels and 1 geothermal well).
